Cancel Google One UK: Storage After Downgrade and App Store Billing

Before turning off Google One, look at how much space your Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos are actually using. Cancelling payment does not instantly erase those files, but it can leave your account over its reduced allowance when the paid plan ends.

How to switch off Google One renewal

Google’s support says you can open Google One, choose Settings and Cancel membership, then confirm. A plan bought through the Apple App Store may need to be managed through that store rather than Android’s Google One app. Google describes continued paid benefits until the billing cycle ends, followed by the basic storage allowance available to that account.

What happens to your storage allowance

If you exceed the available allowance after downgrading, Google warns that sending or receiving Gmail, adding Drive files and backing up Photos may be restricted. The relevant page also explains its general no-refund position for storage plans in most countries, with purchase-channel exceptions; do not assume cancelling mid-cycle automatically credits unused days.

For example, if your family uses a shared paid storage plan, review both the family members’ usage and the renewal information before stopping it. Losing the paid storage benefit is a different issue from closing the underlying Google Account.

Confirm the billed account

Save the confirmation email and check the next billing date. If the subscription was purchased through a partner, follow Google’s partner-billing instructions rather than repeatedly cancelling a plan that does not appear in your Google One settings.

Google One manages storage rather than video access; our Netflix UK cancellation guide covers a distinct subscription if you are reviewing several monthly payments.
