H&M UK Returns: Sale Deadlines, £2.99 Fee and Store Drop-off
An H&M purchase can have one return deadline for ordinary items and another for a sale garment in the same bag. Before beginning a return, check the item type and which H&M group brand supplied it: this affects both the relevant deadline and whether a high-street shop will accept it.
The deadline and eligible goods
H&M’s official UK guidance is the source for the following published process. H&M's current UK returns information says an eligible order normally has 30 days after receipt to register a return, while sale items and designer collection articles have a 14-day registration period. The company lists a £2.99 fee per brand for returns through its non-store routes, deducted from the refund. Eligible H&M purchases brought back to an H&M shop avoid that return fee. These are policy conditions, so inspect your order's instructions for any different treatment of a particular line.
Where this particular return gets complicated
Items from related labels such as COS, ARKET or & Other Stories may appear in the same online shopping experience, but H&M says they cannot all be returned to an H&M shop. External-brand products also follow separate handling. A parcel combining H&M and another included brand may generate separate refunds. This matters if an email confirms one part of your order but the bank balance does not yet show the other.
Avoid an unnecessary second journey
The return method may be shown against each H&M item, not just the order total. Before packing, check whether another group brand has supplied part of the basket and whether the online refund portal has created separate references. Keep the payment confirmation because different refund emails do not necessarily correspond to separate original transactions. A garment that has been washed or worn beyond trying it on may fall outside the retailer's voluntary policy even when its registration window has not closed.
A common purchase scenario
Imagine buying one reduced jumper and one full-price top. Do not wait until the ordinary 30-day point to register both returns; the sale garment may have a shorter deadline. If you live near an H&M store, check whether both pieces are accepted there before deciding to pay for a postal return.
Where to find the correct support option
Use the UK returns page and the route offered against each order item. Retain the parcel drop-off record or shop return confirmation. If a refund is delayed, check whether it relates to a separate H&M group brand and refer to the company's stated processing stages before contacting its customer service.
Split deadlines in the same basket
The online system may show an ordinary H&M item next to a sale garment or a product sold by another H&M-group brand. Check each item’s return deadline and permitted location separately. A shop may accept the H&M top while declining the external brand, and a combined outgoing parcel may still produce multiple refund confirmations.
