Utilita Credit Refunds: Billed Accounts, Missing Top-Ups and Final Balances

Utilita’s refund route covers more than one type of payment problem. A billed customer whose energy account is in credit can ask the supplier to review a refund, while a pay-as-you-go customer can use the same refund contact route when a top-up was paid for but the credit did not reach the meter.

Use the refund form for account credit

Utilita’s current online form asks for the customer reference number and postcode before showing the account details and enquiry options. One of those options is My account is in credit. The supplier may need current account information before deciding what can be returned, so a credit figure on one bill should not automatically be treated as the final refund amount.

A missing top-up is a separate problem

If money was taken for a top-up but the value did not reach the meter, select the relevant top-up option rather than describing it as ordinary account credit. Utilita allows supporting documents such as a receipt to be supplied with the enquiry. Customers who have lost supply can also use the emergency contact route shown by the supplier.

Moving home: tell Utilita before the account is forgotten

When a customer moves out, Utilita says it is important to notify the company so the old account can be closed correctly and any remaining credit can be refunded. The moving-home guidance warns that failing to tell Utilita can make it harder to receive money left on the account.

Final bills need accurate meter information

Utilita’s code of practice asks billed and traditional PAYG customers to provide final meter readings when moving or switching supplier. It aims to issue a final bill for credit customers within six weeks of leaving supply, and where a credit balance remains it aims to refund that balance.

Start with Utilita’s official refund form for a live credit balance or a paid top-up that has not appeared. If you are moving home, submit the moving-out information as well so the final account can be calculated.
