E.ON Next Credit Refunds: Meter Readings, Moving and Final Bills
E.ON Next does not treat every positive balance as money that should automatically leave the account immediately. Its billing guidance asks customers to make sure the account is up to date before requesting a refund, while its supply terms explain what happens to credit when a customer moves out.
Check the bill before asking for a refund
If the credit balance looks unusually high, first confirm when the most recent bill was produced and whether it used actual or estimated readings. E.ON Next says it may need an up-to-date meter reading even where a smart meter is installed. That allows the supplier to compare payments with actual energy used rather than refunding money that is about to be consumed by the next bill.
How to request money back
Once the account is current and still shows more credit than needed, the help centre directs customers to contact E.ON Next to ask for a refund. The supplier may recommend keeping some credit as a buffer for higher seasonal usage. A request therefore is not the same as an automatic right to withdraw every pound shown on the live account screen.
Moving out of the property
E.ON Next’s terms require a departing customer to tell the supplier about the move. Provide a final meter reading and a forwarding address within the stated period unless the supplier can obtain the reading from a communicating smart meter. E.ON Next then uses the closing information to prepare the final bill or statement.
If the final account is in credit, the terms say the supplier will deal with money it owes. They also allow credit on one E.ON account to be used against debt on another account held by the same customer. That means the figure on one fuel or property account may not always be the final amount paid out.
Example
Imagine an account showing £200 credit shortly before winter. If the latest bill is based on an estimate from several weeks ago, E.ON Next may first need a current reading. By contrast, if you have moved out, the priority is to close the account correctly with the move date and final reading so the final bill can establish the true balance.
