National Tyres Cancellations: 14 Days, Fitted Tyres and MOT Services

Cancelling a National Tyres and Autocare order is not the same as returning a boxed product from an ordinary online shop. Tyres may already have been fitted to a vehicle, and services such as an MOT can be fully performed before a customer thinks about cancelling. The company’s published rights page therefore links the refund to how far the work has progressed.

Before fitting: the cleanest cancellation

National Tyres describes a 14-day cancellation period for distance purchases, subject to the circumstances of the order. If eligible tyres are cancelled before they have been fitted, the customer can receive reimbursement, including the standard delivery element where the terms require it. Contact the company promptly so the fitting appointment can be stopped before work begins.

Fitted but not driven away

The value can change as soon as fitting takes place. National Tyres says that where tyres have been fitted but the customer has not yet driven away, it may make a deduction of about £15 per tyre to reflect the fitting and removal work. This is a practical reason to raise a cancellation before the appointment rather than after the car is already on the ramp.

Once the tyres have been used

If fitted tyres have been driven on, National Tyres warns that their value may be greatly reduced and there may be little or no refund for a simple cancellation. That does not mean a genuine defect should be ignored. A tyre that is faulty or work that was not carried out correctly is a different issue from changing your mind after use and should be reported as such.

Completed services such as an MOT

For a service-only product, the cancellation position can disappear once the service has been fully performed at the customer’s request during the cancellation period. National Tyres uses an MOT as an example. You cannot normally ask for a cooling-off refund after requesting and receiving the complete service merely because the result was not what you hoped for.

The company states that eligible reimbursements are made within the applicable 14-day timing once the relevant return or evidence is received. Keep appointment confirmations, invoices and any inspection paperwork until the matter is closed.
