Fortnum & Mason Returns: Hampers, Unwanted Gifts and Online Orders

Fortnum & Mason sells both returnable gifts and perishable food, so one blanket returns answer would mislead. Its current online guidance directs customers to its returns hub and lists exclusions for fresh food, flowers, some hamper contents, personalised goods and certain unsealed items. An unwanted non-perishable gift has a different route from a report that a food delivery arrived damaged. See Fortnum & Mason’s UK guidance on why a hamper is not an ordinary parcel return for the original policy wording.

For an online or telephone order, find the order number on the delivery note and the buyer’s email, then open the official returns hub. An unwanted gift has a specific gift-return option using the order number and delivery postcode; the customer-care team may need to contact the recipient about the next step.

Online refunds cannot be issued at a shop till

Fortnum & Mason says its staff in a physical shop cannot issue a till refund for a purchase made online. An online return handed to a shop may still be sent into the customer-services process. Check the separate advice before carrying a large hamper to Piccadilly, particularly if any contents are fresh or perishable. Fortnum & Mason’s further instructions explain the related conditions.

A separate gift order placed with Hotel Chocolat follows that seller’s own delivery and gift-return instructions, not this provider’s portal.

Imagine receiving a hamper containing fresh cheese alongside tins of tea. Do not infer that returning the unopened tea means the entire food hamper is eligible for a change-of-mind return. For a damaged delivery, report the problem with the order and photographs rather than attempting to re-sell or re-ship perishable goods.

What the refund confirmation covers

The official help article explains when an approved refund or e-gift card is issued after the goods have been returned and checked, and separately addresses the standard delivery charge. Retain a record of the route that Customer Services authorised for your order.
