CeX UK Returns: Online Refunds, Shop Vouchers and Faulty Tech
A receipt from a CeX branch and an invoice for a CeX website order are not interchangeable when you change your mind. The route to your money depends first on where you purchased the item, then on whether it is merely unwanted or actually faulty.
A shop purchase is not an online cooling-off return
For an unwanted item purchased in a CeX branch, its store guidance describes a two-day goodwill option for a voucher, subject to management discretion and the item being in the condition sold. That is not an automatic refund to your bank card, and some products are excluded. If the item is faulty, use the separate fault process: take proof of purchase and describe the fault so staff can assess and verify it. The store publishes a five-year warranty for eligible goods, with exceptions for consumables and specified damage; check its current detailed wording for the item in question.
Online purchases: tell CeX promptly
The online returns guidance says you can notify CeX that an unwanted online order is being returned within 14 days of delivery, then send it back within a further 14 days. An eligible online order may also be returned through a branch, with the invoice, within the stated window. Keep all accessories and return the product in the condition in which it arrived. A change-of-mind return is different from a fault claim; do not select the wrong reason merely to obtain a free return label.
Post, shop counter or an item that develops a fault
CeX lists store hand-in and postal routes for online or Click & Collect purchases, including Royal Mail collection or Freepost options. For valuable electronics, review the carrier insurance limits and get tracking. Before handing over a phone, back up your personal information and follow CeX instructions for signed-in accounts. If an item fails after use, provide the receipt and fault details so the retailer can test it under the applicable remedy or warranty rather than trying an ordinary unwanted-item return.
How this could work
A shopper picks up a console at a local CeX store on Monday and regrets the colour on Thursday; the published two-day store goodwill window is different from the online cancellation route. If that console stops working under normal use, the customer should report a fault rather than ask staff to treat it as a simple change of mind.
Common question
Can I return an online CeX order in a shop?
CeX says eligible online and Click & Collect returns can be brought to a branch with the invoice. Check the online timing and any product restrictions before travelling.
