Rover UK Pet Sitting Cancellation: Sitter Terms and Refunds

Booked a dog sitter through Rover and need to change your plans? The first detail to look at is the cancellation policy shown on that sitter’s booking, not a general rule for every pet-care appointment. Rover permits different cancellation settings for certain services. A boarding stay arranged for a week and a single dog walk may therefore have quite different treatment when you cancel close to the start time.

Find the policy attached to your booking

Rover’s UK explanation of sitter cancellation settings distinguishes same-day, one-day, three-day and seven-day options for specified services. Your booking’s sitter, the service type and the time of cancellation all matter. Look at the confirmed booking and any displayed cut-off rather than counting backwards from an old reminder message. Recurring services have a different same-day arrangement. A reservation for boarding should not be treated as if it were a recurring walk.

What happens if the sitter cancels

If the person providing care cancels, the process is not the same as changing your mind about a confirmed reservation. Rover’s sitter-cancellation help page says it refunds bookings cancelled by the sitter and describes help finding replacement care in relevant circumstances. Check the notification in your account to confirm who cancelled and whether you have been offered another arrangement. Do not assume that a new sitter, a credit and a repayment to your original method are interchangeable.

A date change is not always a cancellation

If you want to shorten an existing stay, change drop-off time or move the appointment entirely, open the booking and examine its modification options. Rover explains that changing dates can be handled differently from cancelling the original booking; the sitter may be able to apply a late-change policy when reducing a stay. Do not book a second sitter before checking the status of the original reservation, or you may end up with two live arrangements. Keep the messages inside the platform so the booking history remains clear.

Check the refunded amount and its route

An initial reservation can include care fees, add-ons and platform charges. When reading a displayed estimate, compare the cancelled dates and type of care with the policy that applied at booking; do not assume the entire amount is automatically returned. If the confirmation and account activity disagree, take a note of the booking reference, start date, cancellation time and itemised amounts. Rover’s published terms and the details visible in the account are better evidence of your transaction than a generic statement about holiday bookings.

A practical example

Imagine a two-night boarding booking beginning on Friday, but your plans change on Thursday evening. Do not assume that a full return of payment follows simply because the stay has not begun: check the sitter’s selected cancellation window. By contrast, if the sitter cancels the appointment, use Rover’s separate booking-protection guidance. These two situations can lead to different actions even when they involve the same pet and dates.

Official help and checking your details

Use the booking page and Rover’s official UK Help Centre to find the available cancel, modify and support options. If asking about a missing repayment, give the support team the booking reference, sitter name and confirmation time, and specify whether the sitter or you initiated cancellation. Avoid publishing your home address, payment credentials or pet-care details in an open forum. This guide concerns booking administration, not veterinary treatment, injury claims or an assessment of anyone’s legal entitlement.
