In a WordPress.com account, cancelling a subscription and removing it immediately are two separate actions. That difference determines whether paid features continue until the expiry date or disappear straight away. It is also possible to have a website plan and a domain renewing independently, so identify the purchase before pressing Cancel.
The policy for this purchase
The official account guide says cancelling a subscription turns off auto-renewal while leaving it active until its current expiry date; the action itself does not issue a refund. A separate Remove action ends the subscription immediately and can trigger an eligible refund if the purchase is still within its refund period. The support page also explains that removing or allowing a paid website plan to expire returns the website to free-plan limitations, while stored posts and pages generally remain. A website created on Adobe’s subscription services has unrelated billing terms; WordPress.com can manage only purchases made through its own account.
How to arrange the return
Open WordPress.com’s account billing area, then Active Upgrades. Select the correct site plan and review the purchase date, expiry date and features that would change. If your aim is to stop the next charge but preserve paid functionality until the end of the term, follow Cancel subscription and confirm the expiry notice. If you are seeking an eligible immediate refund, read the separate removal guidance before taking an irreversible action. Check the domain, email and add-on entries individually.
An example worth checking
For example, you stopped the annual plan but still see a domain renewal scheduled a month later. That is not necessarily a failed plan cancellation: the domain is a different product with its own renewal switch. Conversely, removing the site plan immediately can change the site address and display advertisements; consider exporting content you may need before doing so.
After you hand over the parcel
If an expected refund has not appeared, use the purchase-history entry to establish whether you merely cancelled auto-renewal or also completed the refund/removal step. WordPress.com maintains a separate refunds guide and support channel for account-specific questions.
